Skate with the Roller Girls

Public invited to "Skate with the Roller Girls"

MOUNDSVILLE, WV - Jan 21, 2013 -- For anyone who has ever wanted to skate with roller derby players (without the hits) the Ohio Valley Roller Girls will host "Skate with the Roller Girls". The family-friendly fundraising event will be Saturday January 26 from 2-4 pm at the Roller Derby in Moundsville.

The roller girls have planned fun activities for all ages. Women interested in playing roller derby can learn how to get started. The team is also recruiting referees and volunteers. Kids and the young at heart can do the limbo, the hokey-pokey, and cart races.

For those concerned about the safety of children skating with rough-and-tumble roller derby players, the Ohio Valley Roller Girls are quick to reassure parents. "We solemnly swear never to hip check, shoulder check, sternum check, booty block, hip whip, arm whip, or shove your children," stated skater Libby Horrorcheck. "This is as safe as kids can get while wearing wheels."

The Roller Girls will charge $5 admission and sell baked goods and team-branded merchandise to raise money for their travel expenses. Quad and inline skates can be rented for $1. Skate with the Roller Girls will be held at The Roller Derby located on 10th St in Moundsville, WV on Saturday, January 26th from 2-4 pm.
